Beginner's guide to the Equilibrium League

Never played a League before? Start here. The Equilibrium League is running, 10 August to 21 September 2026.

What is a League?

A League is a seasonal game mode. Everyone creates a fresh character on dedicated league worlds, so your main account is untouched.

Every league character is a non-hardcore Ironman: no trading, no Grand Exchange, but no permanent loss on death either. Anything you use, you gather, make or kill for yourself.

Completing tasks earns league points. Points unlock relics: rule-bending passive powers, including an XP multiplier that starts at 5x on the first tier and climbs to 16x. A league character reaches in weeks what a main account takes years to do, and every player's build ends up different.

The Equilibrium twist

Equilibrium is themed around Order, Balance and Chaos, the domains of Saradomin, Guthix and Zamorak. You pick a side (or hold the balance) and unlock combat blessings along that path by completing blessing tasks, five in every region. Unlike Catalyst's combat relics, blessings do not lock you into melee, ranged or magic, and you can reset them four times: once at tier 1, once at each God tier, and once more from the reset Jagex granted every account on 12 August. Every blessing, with full effects. It is also the first league in either RuneScape game that is free-to-play accessible, on dedicated free worlds and capped at four regions, tier 3 relics and tier 2 blessings; see the F2P guide.

You start with Misthalin and Havenhythe. Karamja unlocks at 50 tasks completed, the same for everyone, then you choose three more, one each at 150, 275 and 400 tasks, from Anachronia, Asgarnia, Desert, Fremennik, Kandarin, Morytania, Tirannwn and Wilderness. Six regions out of eleven, so those three picks shape your whole run. A free-to-play account gets the first of the three and stops there, at four regions.

Locked regions never strand you: clue steps, Slayer assignments and Reaper tasks only send you where you can go, and an area task that reaches outside its own taskset completes itself the moment you unlock the region it needed (full rules).

A handful of quests and tutorials begin already completed, including the one that hands you a house and the one that hands you 500 beans, and every region you unlock brings its own set of auto-completed quests with it, so quest requirements do not lock a fresh account out of a region's best content. The hub has the detail.

Getting in

You do not make a new account. The fresh character above is reached from the account you already have: log in as normal, open the World tab and pick one of the designated league worlds. Your first login there puts you in Lumbridge as your league character, where the Sage explains how the mode works and hands you your first relic choice.

The loop, step by step

  1. Finish the tutorial. It awards your first league points and unlocks your first relic almost immediately.
  2. Open the task list. Tasks span every skill and region, tiered Easy to Master. Higher tiers pay more points.
  3. Route your tasks. Efficient players chain tasks that share a location or a skill, so pick the skill you are already training and sweep everything attached to it before moving on. Star tasks in the task database to build a running point total.
  4. Unlock relics at thresholds. Each relic tier is a permanent choice, so check what is in later tiers before spending.
  5. Expand regions. Regions open on tasks completed rather than points, at 50, 150, 275 and 400, so an easy task moves you toward the next region exactly as far as a master one.

Getting coins

No trading and no Grand Exchange means early coins come out of content rather than out of other players.

  • The Stronghold of Security. A full clear pays 10,000 coins and is doable at low level.
  • Explorer Jack. Take the claim rewards option as you tick off Area Tasks achievements; each completed set pays out.
  • Alchemy at 55 Magic. Kill things that drop the higher tiers of salvage and high alch what they leave.

Day-one advice

  • Do not overthink your first relics. Early tiers come fast. The consequential choices are the later, expensive tiers.
  • Play the XP multiplier. Tier 1 alone gives a 5x multiplier, so training methods that are slow on your main are suddenly reasonable. Favor methods that overlap with task completion.
  • Expect crowds. Launch day worlds are packed. Task steps that need a specific NPC or resource are faster on quieter worlds.
  • Have fun with it. The Reddit meta route is not mandatory; a build that suits how you play will carry you through the season.

When does it end?

The league runs 10 August to 21 September 2026, 42 days, and league accounts are not accessible after that. Cosmetic rewards bought in the reward shop stay on your main account forever.
